Nino Mier  •  Salzburg, Austria

Austrian artist Nino Mier works with Liquid Latex and Enamel to create provocative, text-based paintings.

The industrial and toxic nature of the medium is a perfect complement to Mier's stinging pop-culture commentary. Yet, ironically, the end-result is soft, sensual, inviting, and possesses an alluring physicality. One reviewer noted that the work is "pleasantly tactile, almost milky."

While his pieces beg to be touched and caressed, they nevertheless sting the viewer with a scathing wit. This simultaneous tug of attraction and repulsion makes for an intense dualistic experience. Indeed, Mier shakes us to the core by viscerally reminding us how qualities such as warmth, love, and comfort can synchronistically exist with the likes of ambiguity, severity, and even cruelty.

Born in Salzburg, Mier attended The Cate School and studied at Cornell University in New York. He's traveled extensively and has put down stakes in Italy, France, Israel, Germany, and Switzerland. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
